Programs:

At the WestLake Child Development Center we feature an academically rich, developmentally appropriate curriculum which focuses on the individual skills and interests of children for six weeks to twelve years. Our teachers are skilled, educated professionals chosen from their sensitivity to the needs and ideas of children. Our curriculum is based on the knowledge that young children learn best through active "hands on" exploration and experimentation. The curriculum is theme based. Each week lessons that include math, science, humanities and language are developed around the theme that is being presented. All lesson plans consider the quality of the experience of an activity, not the final product. It is the child's involvement in an activity that builds knowledge. Enrichment programs including music, computers, creative movement and foreign language enhance our academic curriculum and add depth to each day's experience.

Primary Care Groups:

Through the practice of Primary Care, a teacher is available to parents as a principle point of contact regarding information about their child.  Primary Care also promotes continuity and bonding among the child, the teacher, the parent and peers.

NAEYC Accreditation:

While our program is currently not accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.  We have a strong commitment to providing a high quality program for young children and their families.  Emphasis is placed on the quality of interactions between staff and children and the developmental appropriateness of the curriculum.  Health and safety, staffing, staff qualifications, physical environment, and administration are all reviewed during the accreditation process.  Primary consideration is given to the quality of the child's experience.  Once WestLake CDC has been in operation one calendar year we will apply for and achieve NAEYC Accreditation.

Security:

The safety and security of your child is our utmost concern.  The primary mechanism for ensuring the security of the center is the strict adherence to the center's established procedures for your child's arrival and departure.  All guests are required to register at the reception desk.  Security cameras are located in each classroom.  Parents can view the activity in the classroom by accessing the built-in television monitors installed in the lobby.  Additionally, WestLake Park security constantly monitors the Center and serves as a resource in coordinating and assisting in any emergency situation.
